Frequently asked
Where are the best places to photograph in Porto?
It depends on what you are after, which is why I always ask first.
For couples: the Crystal Palace Gardens, Foz — with the Pergola, Passeio Alegre and the Felgueiras lighthouse —, Afurada, Jardim do Morro, Serra do Pilar, Rua das Flores and the Cathedral quarter. And the Luís I Bridge at dawn, one of my favourites for the obvious reason: at that hour it belongs to us.
For individual portraits: Virtudes, Miradouro da Vitória, Cedofeita and Miguel Bombarda. Plus one nobody uses yet — the office buildings by the VCI ring road, at the entrance to the industrial area. Modern architecture, and the pedestrian walkways have textures worth using. That is where I take anyone who wants tight framing with a long lens.
For a recognisable Porto in the background: Serra do Pilar, Cais de Gaia, the Cathedral square and Miradouro dos Guindais. All four work; Serra do Pilar gives you the most complete view.
What I will not do is promise a specific spot before knowing the day and the hour. In rain or in sunshine, the same place changes character completely.
If you want to see how I organise a whole day like this, it's all on the Porto photo session page.
